Until recently there was no road to Türkbükü and the only way to reach this beautiful place of mandarin fields and white wash coated houses was by boat. This is why it remained untouched for so long. But, as happened to all places, it was "discovered" and the construction of summer houses began.
In ancient history, Türkbükü was used as a port by Lyceans. The sea trade to the Gulf of Güllük was conducted from here. Although very scattered, wanderers come across stone tombs and cisterns.
Since Türkbükü has became popular, as you wander here you can come across famous faces from the art world. They come here often and some joined the trend of summer house building.
Fresh fish from fish farms, sea bass and bream, are placed on the grill. Those who want to keep going for the night head to Bodrum around midnight and the place plunges into calmness. However, the night is not over in Türkbükü and the sound of music comes out of the bars there. Those who seek quiet walk in the beachside, along with the melody of the waves and the moonlight. The Historic Figure and Model Museum In Türkbükü there is a private museum. This is the collection of historic figures and models by the architect Emre Kunt, on display in part of his own home. You have to call 0252 377 6223 to make an appointment to visit the collection. A visit to nearby areas: In the open sea off Türkbükü there is Badem (Almond) Island. Those who take a walk in the hills of Türkbükü will come across the ruins of the historic city of Masanda. Amid the stones, piles of bricks, two towers, the ruins of houses, cisterns, and tombs attracts one’s attention. Boat tours in the vicinity: Throughout summer boat tours are conducted from the quay in Türkbükü to the outlying regions. You start around 10:00 or 11:00 am and return around 17:00 or 18:00 in the evening. Mostly quiet coves to the north of the peninsula are preferred as stopping points. The stopping points are the İkiz Islands, Kızıl and Hattatlar Coves, the port of Derin, Apostle and Tavşan Islands, Gündoğan and Dikilitaş. Lunch and afternoon tea are included in the prices. How to get there? In order to get to Türkbükü you go through Torba and Gölköy. The road, which passes through pine forests, takes you to Türkbükü. Every 45 minutes dolmuşes (shared minibuses or cars) leave from Bodrum and get to Türkbükü in half an hour. Where to stay? In Türkbükü new accommodation facilities have been built. (see practical Muğla pages.) There are also many pensions. What to eat? In the restaurants on the waterside there is seafood and all types of meats dishes. The sole caught in winter in Türkbükü are delicious. The evenings are fun at tables that are put on the wooden quays. Some of the restaurants on the beach area give also breakfast. To get something quick in daytime you may also try mantı (a type of Turkish ravioli covered in yoghurt) or either otlu börek (flat bread Turkish pastry with green herbs) or çiğ börek (a mix of raw meat, cracked wheat and spices that is kneaded until it is in a way cooked). You even have fast-food options. The restaurants for small businesses are always a delicious option. (See practical Muğla pages for restaurants.) |
